The process of sandblasting is a fairly simple one in theory. It is a term used to describe shaping, smoothing or cleaning hard surface by forcing hard particles over that hard surface at very high speeds. The process itself is very similar to sandpapering; however using a sandblaster gives a smoother finish with much less effort.
In nature sandblasting can happen as a result of particle being blown in natural and artificial way. The artificial way would include using compressed air, while a natural way of sandblasting includes a particle that is being blown by the wind causing eolian erosion.
The artificial way of sandblasting was patented in 1870. by Benjamin Tilghman and as a result there are numerous types of sandblasters available on the markets world wide. It is no wonder as sandblaster, if operated correctly, will give you an even finish and smooth and clean surface with half the effort it would take to finish the same job with sandpaper.
